Advocacy
As the AGD solely represents the interests of the general dentist, it is vital that constituents are involved in this process as well. The activities listed below are some of the first steps constituents can take to become the voice of the general dentist.

Constituents that are recipients of the Advocacy Achievement Award can earn $1,000. (Please note this award will not be given unless the council determines a constituent is truly deserving.) In the event of a tie, ties will be broken by number of successful legislative/regulatory initiatives. Further ties will be broken by rating the successful initiative as matched to the Council on Legislative & Governmental Affairs’ (LGA) legislative/regulatory priorities. Winners of the Advocacy Achievement Award will be honored at the AGD annual meeting.

Please note points earned for the Advocacy Achievement Award will be determined by the Council on LGA.

Membership
The Membership department contributes to the growth and effectiveness of the AGD by continuing to improve our member service, building and maintaining a viable membership base, maintaining continuing dental education transcripts for members, and administering quality affinity programs for all member segments. This is accomplished by a combination of staff and volunteer efforts to energize and involve members in activities of the AGD, including the recruitment and retention of members.

The Membership Award seeks to honor and reward AGD constituents who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in their recruitment and retention efforts. There are six size-based constituent categories that are recognized at the AGD annual meeting and presented with a $1,000 award, to be applied to future recruitment and retention activities.

Points are awarded based on the documentation provided. Documentation is required for any activity listed. This would include promotional material and/or list of activities and number of members recruited. Scoring: 5-20 points will be awarded by the Council on Membership based on the complexity of each activity.

Communication
The Communications department keeps members informed through two print publications, AGD Impact and General Dentistry, as well as through online newsletters, such as AGD in Action. The Editors’ Program provides a forum for discourse among constituent editors, allowing them to trade useful information for constituent newsletters and information on ways to recruit, retain, and train new editors.

The ACE Award recognizes excellence in newsletter publishing. Newsletters are evaluated by impartial judges who are not affiliated with the AGD. The award acknowledges the best newsletters in six size categories, as well as the “most improved newsletter” and “best constituent Web site” (see below).

Please note points earned for the ACE Award will be determined by the Council on Communications.

Public Information/Public Relations
Public information and public relations efforts communicate specific messages through the media without purchasing ads or paying for promotion. This involves creating newsworthy ways to communicate the message and then working to interest media in the story idea so they cover it as news. Through public information and public relations efforts, each constituent has the ability to recruit new members, attract media attention for the constituent, establish the constituent as a credible dental resource in the community, and help enhance the image of general dentistry.

The Public Information Award recognizes excellence in public information achievements that have increased awareness of dental health issues and raised visibility for general dentistry, the AGD, and its members.

Please note points earned for the Public Information Award will be determined by the Council.

Continuing Dental Education
The Continuing Education (CE) Award of Excellence recognizes exemplary continuing dental education programs throughout a state. It acknowledges constituents who have provided multiple CE opportunities throughout their state through direct training or through approved local program providers and have encouraged participation in the Fellowship and Mastership Awards programs.

Please note points earned for the CE Award of Excellence will be determined by the Council on Dental Education.

Constituent of the Year
The Constituent of the Year Award recognizes constituents who display strengths in every area of constituent activity representation, governance and administration, CE, communication, membership, and public information.

Constituents seeking to earn the Constituent of the Year should complete Sections A through F of the Universal Award Application to be eligible. Please note not all items in Sections A through E must be completed—partial completion is acceptable.

Please note points earned for the Constituent of the Year Award will be determined by the Regional Directors.
