Dental Boards
The AGD has always offered its members the benefit of maintaining their continuing education (CE) records, but in 2005 the organization took it a step further by creating state-specific transcripts. The AGD Licensing Transcript provides members with a customized report of their CE with state board requirements spelled out. For AGD members, their AGD licensing board transcript lists the CE requirements for relicensure as mandated by the state dental practice act, including mandatory subjects and total CE credits in a variety of fields (participation, lecture, self-instruction, and so forth).
If an AGD member is selected by his or her state dental board for a CE audit during the licensure renewal process, it is up to the individual member to have the original documentation of that CE. The AGD licensing board transcript acts as a compiling document of the list of attended courses submitted by that member and/or the provider(s) of the course(s). The member has the responsibility of keeping all of the original documentation in case of an audit so that the board may see original certificates of completion. However, members do have the ability to print out the documentation that they submitted to the AGD for inclusion in the transcript and to use this for auditing purposes.
The AGD’s goal is to ease the administrative burden on board staff as well as AGD members during the process of license renewal and CE maintenance reviews by allowing the AGD Licensing Transcript to track and verify all of the records. When an AGD member submits the AGD Licensing Transcript as verification of CE taken, the dental board can be assured this document accurately reflects state requirements.
Throughout 2009, the AGD corresponded with state and the District of Columbia (D.C.) dental boards regarding acceptance of the AGD licensing board transcript. As of November 2009:
· 63% (32 of 51) have responded in 2008/09 that they do accept the AGD Licensing Transcript with no other documentation needed.
· 21% (11 of 51) responded that they need original documentation if a dentist is audited and the transcript will not qualify as documentation. However, members in these states can use the AGD Licensing Transcript for organizational purposes.
· 8% (4 of 51) responded that they do not accept the transcript (Missouri, Montana, South Dakota, and Wisconsin).
· 4% (2 of 51) do not have CE requirements to track so the transcript is not necessary (Colorado and Wyoming).
· 2% (1 of 51) have not responded (District of Columbia).
· 2% (1 of 51) are still considering acceptance (Maryland).
